Welcome back to Biblically Rooted Reminders! This devotional series features verses that inspire believers with enduring principles and truths to carry throughout the day. Today’s post is all about encouragement, and hope, to boost your confidence in the Lord.

Psalms 145:17-18 | God is Righteous, Kind, and Near

The Lord is righteous in all His ways, And kind in all His works. The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.

This psalm begins by praising God and magnifying His greatness, then it goes on to describe His character. Verses 17-18 which are highlighted above speak to two of His attributes: righteousness and kindness. To me, this is an awesome testament to his goodness, and a comfort to know God is both morally right in everything he does, and that he is kind. On top of that, he is near to those who call on Him in truth! What an encouragement, and reason for praise!

1 Peter 1:3-5 | Born again to a living hope

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable, undefiled, and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

The book of 1st Peter was written to the churches scattered across Asia Minor in the first century, and the verses above are the beginning of his letter to them following the introductory statement. These churches were dealing with various adversities, and I can only imagine how comforting Peter’s message (through God) was. The points that stood out to me from this passage are, firstly that God has caused the churches in the dispersion (and this applies to us today) to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus. Secondly that we can look forward to an imperishable inheritance, and third we are protected by God. These things provide so much reassurance and reason for confidence. There is hope for life to come through Jesus, death is not the end.

Takeaways and Application

As we immerse ourselves in Scripture, we are drawn into deeper worship, shaped by God's ways, and anchored in truth. Psalm 145, in particular, reveals the tender and powerful character of God which can bring us closer to Him. 1st Peter 1:3-5 fills us with hope for the future we have in Christ. This hope can transform how we live and give us strength to walk differently from the world, knowing that our God is near us. Hold fast to these promises, internalize His truth, and live each day with joyful expectation.

With Love,

Rosie
