Dear Architect, it's possible.

I remember my professor in English class talking about the plot line in movies, and how in most films the protagonist shifts from passive to active around half way through. Interestingly, in my own experience and observation of others I think this shift is when many people’s stories really begin. For me, I was just turning 18 and had been going through a ruff patch simply allowing myself to play the victim. I saw two paths before me, one being everything I’d ever wanted, and the other being a progressive downgrade into depression. As you can probably guess I picked the positive one, and changed everything I was doing. After that, with a committed decision I’ve chosen what I want and refused to settle.
Most people have desires, passions, and ideals. However, not so many people live doing what they’re passionate about for work, getting what they desire, and enjoying the process. In my conversations with people (who by the way aren’t unhappy), I think a big reason why they aren’t where they could be, is because of how they think about life and where they are. See if you think reality is a set of unshakable laws, then your ideal may appear impossible according to those rules. If you think everything that happens in an indication of God’s will then you may think you should accept what comes rather than exert your will in life.
In my experience life can be welcoming to your dreams, if you change the way you think about it. For example, it you consider the vast possibility of resources and the information accessible, you may decide that just because you don’t know how to get somewhere doesn’t mean it’s impossible. In other words, the reality of the rules of life is a lot bigger than your one person’s experience of it. If you can live in surrender to God, and still see the possibility that He has inspired your desires then you may have the courage to think bigger than your circumstances and take an active roll because of your faith.
Being the architect of your life doesn’t mean that you’re in control of everything that happens. It does mean though, that you remember your ability to choose how you see things and take an active roll in creating what happens in your life.
